Who do you think you are?

Who Do You Think You AreSome thirteen years ago, I was a jobless graduate, confused, frustrated and unsure of what to do to get a favourable outcome. Life for me had become a mirage and so uncertain – it will look as if it would work out but by the time I got there it would have disappeared. Then I had the opportunity to travel out of the country and I thought that
was the best thing that could ever happen to me. That was the only option I could see for me to succeed; and when it fell out, I thought I was finished.

I can fully identify with the young person in this country now that just wants to checkout. I know a few who have tried to go through Algeria, Niger, and the deserts of Morocco and things have gone from bad to worse. I understand, because it was like that for me.

There is a basic foundation we must start from and that is the fact that; success is who you are. Success must begin form the inside out- that is how God designed it. But
unfortunately most people are trying to achieve success from the outside in.

Since success comes from inside you, you need a change of nature to be successful. If you have the nature of God, you are a success because God is a success by nature. This
is the foundation for your success.

It is very important to know who you really are, because what God has made you is one thing. What God is calling you is another thing. And what you are calling yourself is also a different subject.

Who do you believe you are? Who do you claim to be? This is critical to your success. There can be a wide gap between what you are and what you think you are.

Who do you think you are? That is where we get self-image. Self-image is the picture you have about yourself. From self-image we have the word self-esteem, and this is
how you feel about yourself.

From self-esteem we get self-worth which talks about value. What do you think you are worth? This is derived from the picture you have about your self.

There is also self-respect. There are people who treat themselves with respect and there are others who treat themselves without respect, who treat themselves as common people, second/third class citizens because they do not believe they have any inherent value. Your self-image will directly or indirectly control your behavior. You will never
attempt to get anything that you think that person inside is not qualified for.

You wrote an examination and failed, so you believe you have become a failure. That is a lie, because before the examiner was born, it has been designed into your destiny that you should be a success. Stop trying to define yourself by the things that have happened to you or by what you have. You are not what you have come through. You are not
what people call you because when your destiny was planned they were not there. If you have the nature of God you are not a failure. You are who God says you are.

    Good one sir

I had a similar issue a long time ago…I was a victim of sexual assault and this brought a stigma on me from family and friends and the society, even when i left lagos for my university education i still met people who knew me from lagos and they kept talking about it and i carried this negative feelings and mindset about myself for a long time,i saw myself as a good for nothing and i became frustrated, hopeless and confused about myself, this brought me to the knowledge of Christ. I met Jesus in this pain and he transformed my life, cleansed me, and gave me a revelation of who i am and from that moment i became conscious of what lies within me..”I am born for Exploits”, “I am made for Signs and Wonders,”I am born to make Impact in my generations and “To make a Difference in my family” I am a SUCCESS….

    God bless you sir..

    • adekunle

Am Adekunle, is success really having a nice car to ride, having a good job, having a beautiful house and wife who can be presentable in the public, having nice kids, having lots of money in your bank account, having a nice family? Is it possible to be completely successful e.t.c. Hmmm!!!! what is successs????

      • James Samuel

I Think SUCCESS is not the amount of good things we posses but about what we discovered about ourselves and living in the realities of those discoveries. I think that is Success, when we are successful within, WE will be Successful without. I am still discovering new things about myself

        • Thanks for your response James! God bless you

success has to be within, before it finds expression outside,a man maybe wealthy and not rich,a man life does not consist in the abundance of his possession…HE wished=s above all that we prosper and live in health, even as our soul prospers.
Success also means living an impartful life, worthy of emulation in aspect of life……living a maximum life

      Joy instead of sighing.
And enjoy double honor for the years of shame.

  • manueladesola

Thank you sir for sharing this with us. I must say you inspire me alot, my thoughts and ideas. When I was younger, in my early primary school days, I almost couldn’t read or understand simple english word like ‘and, believe’ etc it was a pull of disgrace in class or at home. Where I grew, my name was replaced with ‘Olodo’ whenever I step on someone’s toe. It affected my confidence, affected my life and at some point, it felt like I can never be anything. Today, although I studied political science, I write in a way that amuse me personally. The first poem I ever wrote ‘ the steadfast love of God’, when one of my pastors saw it, as a poet himself, he almost didn’t believe I had never written one before that. God gave me a gift I almost lost because of the circumstance around me then, but with the help of the Spirit, I am neither who I used to be, nor where some people thought I would be. I am living, and working so hard to continue to live the life my Father in heaven has created for me. When you know your gift, it will point to your calling and you would live your life and not a borrowed life, all with the help of the Spirit.

    • Wow! That’s amazing Adesola!
      Keep on succeeding!

I was crazy about checking out few years ago until I heard a voice asking me this question “If all my children run away to other countries, who will be here to do my work?” That was when I realized the greatness of Nigeria and the fact that I have been divinely chosen to be a problem solver and not a problem discussant.

    • SPM Team

      Hello Adisa,
Thank you for your question. Your projects are all good ideas but I will suggest that you first embark on the project that would generate back the capital faster. That way you will be able to raise funds to do the other projects. Considering this will mean the two likely options would be starting something on your land or setting up a business for your wife. To make an informed choice, endeavour to ask questions from credible people who have done what you want to do. You will succeed!
